Building hope in Gugulethu: New homes for 10 more families

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate handed over 10 more homes to excited beneficiaries at the Gugulethu Infill housing project. Progress has significantly increased since the City’s full takeover of the project, which will see the development of 1004 units for qualifying beneficiaries once completed.

The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim and senior officials handed over 10 more homes to beneficiaries.

‘Our handover is more than just about handing over of homes to families – it is about restoring dignity, building hope, and the start of new chapters for the families of the Gugulethu Infill housing project. 

‘The City’s full takeover of this historic project has accelerated progress toward completing the 1004-unit housing development – with 570 homes planned for Gugulethu and 434 for Mau Mau in Nyanga. Our commitment to delivery has never wavered and we look forward to handing over more homes to residents over the coming months. We are happy to announce that steady progress is being made on site.

‘Our teams have been working around the clock, and we are delivering on our promises to the community. Work continues, and we are turning challenges into stepping stones and ensuring that deserving families move into safe, warm, and dignified homes,’ said Councillor Pophaim.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
